Our October issues dives into custom cutting, specifically looking at rotary die cutters, flatbed cutters, and laser cutters as great options for digital finishing needs.
Here we highlight several rotary die cutters on the market today.
Duplo USA
Dupo USA offers the UD-310 Rotary Die Cutter, a high-speed rotary die cutter that delivers print marketing applications in distinctive shapes and sizes to help stand out from the competition. Processing up to 4,000 sheets per hour (sph), the UD-310 utilizes a magnetic cylinder and interchangeable flexible dies that affix to it to process paper, laminates, adhesives and synthetic stocks.
The UD-310 is designed to be easy to use with very little operator intervention.
Grafotronic
Grafotronic is experienced in all aspects of die cutting and offers equipment and solutions, including a full and semi rotary die cutting from 350 up to 750 millimeters (mm). Its units are capable of providing high quality cut, register, and stability along the range of widths.
Its die cutters primarily target the label market, but also serve commercial print from roll to sheet as well as flexible packaging.
MBO America
MBO America provides the Bograma BSR 550 rotary die cutting system, which is available in two unique platforms. Both are designed for the B2 sheet size of 20×29 inches and configured to the needs of the application. Both systems have similar capabilities using flexible, magnetic plate dies, able to be used on a wide range of substrates.
The BSR 550 Basic platform is a compact, all-in-one system with feeder, alignment, die cutting, stripping, and delivery all configured as a single package. The BSR 550 Servo is a modular and expandable system with options for different feeders, strippers, delivery and folding units that are scalable for future and customized application.
Rollem International
Rollem’s Insignia is a sheet-fed rotary die cutting machine performing die cutting, kiss cutting, embossing, creasing, cut-scoring, perforating, and automatic matrix removal—all in one pass. The series is ideal for both digital and offset output with production speeds of up to 5,000 meters per hour and the ability to cut stock up to 30 pt board.
Four models are available from 20×15 inches up to a B2 30-x24 inch size with optional folding and gluing.
Standard Finishing
The RD-N4055 Die Cutting System is the latest addition to Standard Horizon’s line of die cutters. The RD-N4055 combines a high-capacity feeder, a single- or dual-magnetic cylinder die cutter, and a specially designed separator and optional card stacker into a highly efficient, versatile system. It can die cut, kiss-cut, emboss/deboss, crease/score, perforate, slit, hole punch, and round corner in a single pass or in multiple combinations at feed speeds of up to 6,000 sph. The RD-N4055 supports sheet sizes up to 21.65×15.74 inches and finished cut pieces as small as 3.15×1.969 inches and will process 0.5 mm or 20 pt substrates.
Standard also offers Horizon’s RD-3346 Die Cutter that accommodates 13×18.11 inch sheets and up to 14 pt substrate thickness. Die cutting and separating can be performed in one pass at speeds up to 5,000 cycles per hour.
Both the RD-N4055 and RD-3346 are designed to meet the growing demand for short-run applications and can perform multiple operations—from die cutting to kiss cutting to separating—in a single pass. Both systems are also easy to operate, even for non-specialized operators. In the case of the RD-N4055, the combination of SPC-N4055 Separator and CSD-40RD Card Stacker eliminates the need for manual separating and counting by operators to improve accuracy with an automated, verified piece count and to increase production efficiency for small and short-run pieces. The SPC-N4055 Separator contains 20 transport belts, each with a smaller diameter than previous generations, for more accurate separation, more stable operation, and smoother transportation.
Therm O Type
The RDC-Flex, rotary die cutter from Therm-O-Type runs sheets up to 14×20 inches. Featuring a touchscreen computer control, high-capacity vacuum feeder, inline waste stripping and long delivery conveyor, the RDC-Flex is a proven and reliable production machine.
It is designed to for very quick change over between jobs. Flexible die cutting dies can be quickly and accurately mounted to the magnetic cylinder. Vertical and horizontal registration adjustment are controlled through the touchscreen and registration information can be stored and recalled.
Rotary Options
Rotary die cutters provide ease of use and offer a versatile way to cut, shape, and form products. They are often multifunctional and provide an excellent solution for smaller volume static runs produced in digital print environments.
