The world première of the tesla family of glue application heads from Baumer hhs is putting new life into the hot melt market. That’s the conclusion that Baumer hhs can draw following this year’s FachPack. The company presented its innovative products to the public for the first time at the trade fair in Nuremberg. With their outstanding attributes as regards reliability, productivity, user-friendliness and cost-efficiency, the tesla heads already attracted great interest among the professional visitors during the event – particularly also in the OEM market. As a result, Baumer hhs went away with an impressive bundle of initial orders after the three days of the exhibition. One figure alone underlines the enormous interest in this world first: roughly 30% of all the enquiries received by Baumer hhs since the start of the exhibition relate to the new tesla heads. It’s hard to identify any particular industry focus in this respect. On the contrary: enquiries are coming from every market segment that works with hot melt.
“Our team worked very intensively on the development and market launch of our new tesla hot melt application heads in the past few years. The response to date is pleasing confirmation that the special effort was worth while. We’re also particularly pleased with the highly positive reaction on the part of various machine manufacturers. Like the potential users from the end-of-line market and the packaging producers, the machine manufacturers are really happy to see that our tesla products now at last bring electromagnetic heads to numerous applications where there was previously no alternative to delicate, electropneumatic heads,” says Detlef Engling, Managing Director of Baumer hhs, summing up his discussions with existing and potential customers since the end of FachPack. “Our experts will have the opportunity to tackle a host of very attractive projects in the coming months.”
In Nuremberg, Baumer hhs presented a high-performance hot melt application head for connection to its own controllers under the name tesla, as well as 24 V hot melt application heads for operation by PLC under the names tesla red and tesla blue, for standard packaging applications. All three heads guarantee the familiar, high application quality of Baumer hhs gluing systems when applying both hot melt beads and hot melt dots.
The tesla is operated via a controller from Baumer hhs and can process high viscosities at an adhesive pressure of up to 80 bar. The maximum frequency of up to 600 Hz offers plenty of room for increasing productivity and for saving adhesive by applying dots instead of lines.
The tesla blue can be used to replace existing hot melt application heads by the Plug & Play principle. It takes next to no time to replace the previously used electropneumatic hot melt application heads with the new hot melt application head, which is compatible with most of the plug-and-socket connectors available on the market. Since the tesla blue – and equally the tesla red – can moreover be operated by any PLC, no further modifications are necessary on the existing production equipment once the application heads have been replaced.
The common feature of all these hot melt application heads is the high-performance electromagnetic module, a completely new development that opens the door to hitherto unknown dimensions in performance. The innovative tesla hot melt application heads also set new standards as regards safety. In addition, they are characterised by a much longer service life compared to electropneumatic hot melt application heads. That is a decisive advantage in terms of cost and significantly improves the reliability of glue application in day-to-day production. Since the hot melt application heads have to be replaced less frequently, there are fewer production stoppages and less waste.
On top of this come high energy efficiency and low noise emissions. With noise levels of 65 dB(A), the tesla heads operate 30 dB(A) more quietly than electropneumatic hot melt application heads. A further important feature of all the heads in the family is the innovative, integrated overtemperature switch, which interrupts the power supply if the temperature rises beyond the maximum permissible value in the event of a malfunction. It thus meets the requirement for hot melt systems for packaging machines according to the latest safety standard DIN EN 415-10:2014, harmonised according to Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. Last but not least, the new hot melt application heads offer end-of-line packers and packaging producers greater flexibility as regards the adhesives that can be used.
To supplement the tesla heads, Baumer hhs also offers matching monitoring equipment. HLT sensors reliably monitor glue application. In combination with the tesla blue and tesla red, there are also HLT sensors that can be controlled and read out via the PLC. So, end-to-end quality monitoring is ensured for every field of application.
