A businesses’ data is an invaluable resource. However, in order to make the best use of it—and prevent it from getting out of control—it needs to be clean, managed, and accessible.
In part one of this article, we discuss the functions and power of data quality management tools, list early adopters of these solutions, and illustrate how they integrate into the enterprise.
Here, we highlight technologies that offer these functions.
BackOffice

Experian

Informatica
Informatica offers its Data Quality, Data as a Service and Data Preparation products for data quality. Data as a service is designed to enable its customers the confidence of accurate, verified contact data. Inforamtica Data Quality provides projects and initiatives with clean, trusted data to meet its client’s business objectives regarding the size, format, or platform of their data. It’s Data Preparation product is an intelligent data prep application designed to make it easy for users to set up self-service datasets.
Thomas Brence, director, product marketing, Informatica, points out that pricing models for data quality tools vary based on the customers’ needs and the type of tool chosen. Licensed, on premise traditional data quality solutions can be paid for year after year with maintenance, whereas data verification can be sold as data as a service with tiered, volume-based subscription pricing. “Today, we see businesses moving towards more subscription-based models and Informatica has kept up with that trend. We offer pricing models that fit every kind of budget or model whether you’re looking for subscription-based or licensed on premise data quality tools.
Melissa Data
Melissa Data provides the full spectrum of contact data quality, including data profiling, data cleansing, data standardizing, data matching, data enrichments, and continuous monitoring over time to enforce data governance. “We have on premise and cloud services, plus many integrations for popular platforms like Microsoft SQL Server, Pentaho,Talend, Oracle, Excel, Dynamics CRM, Salesforce, and Magento to make data quality easy for the developer, the DBA, and the business user.

SAP
SAP wants to help companies run a live business by making data trusted, complete, and relevant for business processes and analytics. “We believe that every organization needs real time access to data that can be trusted and to have the flexibility to prepare for the unique needs of every department and user,” says Philip On, VP marketing for enterprise information management, SAP.
SAP’s data quality tools offer many key features including SAP Agile Data Preparation, SAP HANA Smart Data Integration and SAP HANA Smart Data Quality Data Quality Management microservies, Simple User Interface, SAP Information Steward, and SAP Data Services.
SAS
SAS allows customers to span the worlds of data management and analytics with shared metadata and lineage across a common platform. Trusted data is crucial—data quality is pervasive throughout our data management offerings and within many of its analytics solutions. Matthew Magne, global product marketing manager for big data management, SAS, says customers can start with a small departmental footprint to show value and grow as business needs dictate.
Solutions include SAS Data Loader for Hadoop, SAS Data Quality, SAS Data Governance, SAS MDM, and SAS Federation Server.
Talend
Talend Data Fabric combines big data, data integration, data quality, cloud integration, master data management, data preparation, and application integration into a single integration platform with a common development and management environment.
Talend’s Data Quality tools enable users to profile, cleanse, mask, and prepare data, while monitoring the quality of data over time—regardless of format or size. Talend Data Quality is integrated into the Talend Data Fabric integration platform, allowing complete reuse of data quality rules across different styles of integration. Rules include machine learning based data de-duplication, validation, standardization, and enrichment. Uniquely, Talend Data Quality natively supports Spark and MapReduce code generation to run data quality tasks on massive data sets directly inside Hadoop.
With Talend,data quality can be deployed on premise or in the clod and on data at rest of in flight, allowing for both a batch and real time use cases to be addressed by a single data job. Recently, the company added self-service capable through Talend Data Preparation. Data Preparation enables anyone to access and cleanse data using browser-based, point and click tools. Business users can share data sets and data preparation recipes turning user defined data preparations into qualified processes. Users can easily export results into desktop tools such as Excel and Tableau to make trusted decisions. Lastl,y IT can reuse the rules defined by the business user to embed data preparation into batch, bold, and master data management data integration scenarios.
Quality Control
