4.26.18
GMG, the leading developer and supplier of high-end color management software solutions, will be focusing on GMG OpenColor 2.1–the most recent version of the past FTA Technical Innovation award recipient–and color-accurate prototypes using the Epson SureColor S80 Series printers at booth 119 during the 2018 FTA INFO*FLEX, held May 7-8 at the Indiana Convention Center.
INFOFLEX 2018 will attract more than 2,000 professionals. Collocated with the FTA Annual Forum, INFOFLEX 2018 attendees from every facet of the package printing and converting industry will immerse themselves in innovative technologies, trending products and services, live equipment demos and technical presentations.
“GMG is providing brand owners and converters color management to assure their packaging preserves consistent and accurate color. GMG OpenColor separation profiles allow package designers and pre-press companies to simulate different color combinations and production variables without having to go on press to check the results,” explains Paulo Monteiro, VP Sales, GMG Americas. “Just as exciting will be a demonstration of how to produce consistent, color-accurate prototypes using GMG ColorProof and the Epson printer.
GMG OpenColor: Reliable proof profiles for packaging printing, with connectivity to third-party applications
With the increasing use of multi-color printing and different combinations of inks, substrates, screening, and other variables, packaging printing involves a lot of color fingerprints and profile tweaking. GMG OpenColor provides a proofing technology that precisely predicts the color appearance of printed inks, particularly ‘overprints’—inks printed on top of each other without requiring extensive fingerprinting. GMG OpenColor can also create multichannel profiles to separate jobs from a certain number of colors to any other number colors; for example, from RGB to seven colors. GMG OpenColor’s rapid adoption by major suppliers and brands worldwide is unprecedented and a strong endorsement of this exciting technology.
While previously users would require a specific test chart to create a color profile, GMG OpenColor 2.1 enables the measurement of full-tone patches from a print control strip, or even solid patches and tint patches on the running printed sheet and to create a profile from the captured spectral data, something no other profiling tool can achieve. GMG OpenColor 2.1 also includes a detection tool for optical brighteners.
GMG OpenColor has connections to third party applications. For example, GMG OpenColor can connect to PACKZ to deliver its dynamically created GMG profiles. With a direct connection to the GMG ColorPlugin integrated in Photoshop, GMG OpenColor offers a predictive, on-the-fly profiling for layers and/or selections, from CMYK to any combination of process colors and spot colors. The new GMG ColorPlugin 1.3 provides RGB-to-multicolor separations (up to seven colors) and makes manual color corrections and tedious work-arounds redundant, providing enormous prepress time-savings and in package printing.
Finally: Truly color-accurate prototypes
One of the booth highlights will be showing how GMG can connect to the new Epson SureColor S80600 series printers to produce exceptional, color-accurate prototypes on a wide variety of substrates. “Between the digital printer and our GMG color proofing software, we believe we are offering, for the first time, color-accurate package press proofs,” comments Monteiro. “Rather than providing clients a rough prototype, they can see exactly, with accurate color, what the final product will look like, matched to the press.” GMG can take a comp and apply a press fingerprint. GMG can deliver the complete package: the digital printer, the software, the substrate, inks, and installation along with a choice of 26 different materials including shrink film, and folding cartons board.
GMG Partners at INFO*FLEX
During INFO*FLEX, a number of GMG partners will also be exhibiting their solutions, including HYBRID Software Inc. 206, Anderson & Vreeland Inc. 535, Epson America (526), MacDermid Graphics Solutions 415, nilpeter USA 435, and Techkon USA 716.
“GMG looks forward to demonstrating to flexo printers our recently updated, unique, accurate color management and proofing solutions,” concludes Monteiro. “We can show how they can get the most accurate color—one of their most significant pain points—from their flexo presses.”
