MicroDynamics, a global leader in advanced surface inspection and measurement technology, is pleased to announce the successful launch of PlateIQ, a new suite of features for flexographic plate inspection, available now within the Veritas platform. The launch marks another step in the company’s ongoing commitment to expanding the capabilities of its measurement technology and delivering quality solutions for the flexographic printing industry.
What is PlateIQ?
PlateIQ is a new suite of features integrated within MicroDynamics’ existing inspection systems, enabling precise measurement, analysis and tracking of flexographic plate surfaces for advanced quality control processes. Through an automatic, system-wide update, PlateIQ is available now for all Veritas/MicroScan3 systems. Existing users can activate the new features by simply downloading the update in MicroScan3. No additional equipment or software is required.
Key Benefits of PlateIQ:
Adds precision 3D measurement and visualization of microscopic plate surface characteristics to existing Veritas and MicroScan3 systems.
Quantifies plate surface structures, including micro-textures, screening patterns, depth, volume, and other critical parameters.
Enables printers and trade shops to identify plate surface variations and potential defects before they impact print quality.
Provides plate manufacturers and screening developers with quantitative data to evaluate and optimize plate technologies.
Measures plates on flat surfaces or mounted on plate cylinders, enabling practical inspection in production environments.
Works within MicroDynamics’ user-friendly instruments, systems, and workflow
Supports quality control and collaboration between printers, converters, and plate suppliers through objective measurement data.
As flexographic plate technologies continue to evolve, microscopic surface structures are playing an increasingly important role in print performance. Yet the ability to precisely measure and control these surfaces in production environments has remained a challenge. PlateIQ addresses this need by bringing white-light interferometry, a high-precision measurement technology traditionally associated with laboratory instruments, into a portable, pressroom-ready system.
“If something has a massive impact on the print process and will determine whether your color will pass or fail, we should have a way to measure it,” stated Brent Zurcher, Director of Operations at MicroDynamics, during his presentation at the Flexo Xperience Center.
PlateIQ Takes Center Stage at Industry Events
MicroDynamics demonstrated PlateIQ at several major industry events this fall, including LOUPE Americas 2026 in Chicago, where converters and suppliers received firsthand demonstrations of the new capabilities.
On September 29, MicroDynamics played a key role in the Flexo Xperience Center (FXC) event, “Quantifying the Relationship between Plate Surface Engineering and Ink Laydown Performance.” The team demonstrated PlateIQ and measured microscopic surface patterns from multiple plate technology partners as part of a collaborative study examining their relationship to print performance.
MicroDynamics also contributed to the FTA Fall Technical Conference, September 30 to October 1 in Atlanta, where advances in plate technology, surface engineering, and process control were prominent topics.
A Legacy of Innovation
The introduction of PlateIQ is part of a broader strategy to expand MicroDynamics’ solution offering through continuous improvement.
“At MicroDynamics, we believe innovation is about continuing to develop tools and technologies in anticipation of where the industry is heading next. We saw that precision measurement is needed beyond the anilox, especially as plate technologies have evolved in recent years,” Zurcher said. “We engineered PlateIQ to bring the precision, quality and usability of MicroDynamics’ systems to meet the inspection needs of this segment too.”
The PlateIQ solution launch comes during a significant year for MicroDynamics as the company celebrates its 25th anniversary of business.
