Electronics For Imaging, Inc., and Duplo Corporation have announced a new, timesaving integration between EFI’s Fiery production workflow for digital print devices and Duplo’s Slitter/Cutter/Creasers. This new offering allows for efficient, automated imposition layout and production from prepress through the finishing stages delivering precise throughput faster and saving up to 70% of setup time.
“EFI and Duplo customers will definitely save time by eliminating the need for manual data entry and setup of finishing information in Fiery digital printing workflows,” said Kevin Chen, product manager at Duplo USA Corporation. “Our collaborative efforts for this automated solution will also reduce human setup errors, plus users now will have the ability to quickly verify job designs with a visual preview of finishing lines before printing.”
Available for the DC-746 Slitter/Cutter/Creaser model now and later for the DC-646 Slitter/Cutter/Creaser, the new integration connects Duplo devices to Fiery Impose software, giving users an automatically-generated, accurate preview of slit, cut, and crease locations in their printing jobs. Users also can save new layouts as templates to automate imposition on future jobs. And, using Fiery Impose’s existing Duplo barcode support, users can load printed jobs directly into the DC-646 and DC-746 and let the finisher perform automatic setup for the job based on the barcode.
The integration has significantly improved efficiency at EFI and Duplo customer Global Print, Inc., in Glendale, California. “After implementing the EFI Fiery Impose integration, our projects now move even faster in our finishing production environment while maintaining high quality and accuracy,” said Ken Kaypekian, Global Print’s sales manager. “Planning our job layouts first on our Duplo DC-746 and then moving it to our Fiery Impose environment, instead of the other way around, has been a much more efficient workflow and the accuracy is now phenomenal.”
“Manual processes in digital print production workflows create bottlenecks that take up too much time, so this new integration for Fiery workflows with Duplo devices is an important new development for customers,” said John Henze, vice president of sales and marketing, EFI Fiery. “This is another example of how Fiery solutions can easily integrate beyond printing to enable customers to be more productive and profitable.”
The new integration feature is currently available through a firmware update delivered online for the Duplo DC-746’s PC Controller software. Support for the Duplo DC-646 will be available later this year.
