The sheetfed inkjet color revolution has begun, and Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, solidifies its position as worldwide leader in inkjet technology with the success of the Océ VarioPrint i300 printer. Designed to help accelerate the printing industry’s transition from offset to high-volume digital output, this breakthrough solution in high-speed inkjet will be showcased to thousands of visitors at Canon EXPO from September 9-11, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York, NY.
In 2010, Océ and Canon R&D combined forces bringing together customer input, intensive research and innovative technology, positioning Canon as a new global leader in the printing industry. The results are now being shown with the Océ VarioPrint i300, a pioneering solution addressing the “Zone of Disruption,” defined by InfoTrends as the opportunity which falls between sheetfeed color electrophotography and continuous-feed inkjet. To date, the machine has successfully been installed in four customer locations, including IWCO Direct, OneTouchPoint (CCI), Merrill Corp. and Progressive Impressions International (pii). In just over 45 days, these Canon Solutions America customers have produced well over five million pages total on the new inkjet press.
“I was fortunate to learn about this groundbreaking technology early and we gladly accepted the offer to be part of Canon’s Lead Customer Program. The VarioPrint i300 fills a gap that no other product can offer by providing high quality, inkjet efficiency, and the flexibility of a true sheetfed production press. The VarioPrint i300 is a perfect fit with Merrill,” said Pat Foley, senior vice president operations, Merrill Corp.
A highlight in the professional printing zone of Canon EXPO the Océ VarioPrint i300 color press combines a flexible architecture and Océ iQuarius inkjet technologies which incorporates proven assets and new innovations designed to redefine the cost, productivity and throughput equation associated with traditional production print methods. The Océ VarioPrint i300 prints up to 294 (letter) images-per-minute. It handles paper format sizes up to 13.9 inch x 19.7 inch (B3) and targets heavy production volumes of 1‐10 million pages per month. The reliable high speed and quality inkjet production is powered by Océ iQuarius technologies, including iQuarius CMYK Inks, Sheet Entry Control, Precision Sheet Control, In-Line Quality Inspection and the iQuarius Drying System.
“A cutsheet inkjet revolution is imminent. It will follow the path of the high-speed continuous-feed color inkjet market with its first successes in transaction, direct mail, and book applications,” said Jim Hamilton, InfoTrends. “Canon is in a great position to take advantage of this opportunity with the Océ VarioPrint i300 and capitalize on the high speed and volume capability, combined with integrated finishing and quality levels that will help it succeed in the transaction, direct mail, book, and manual markets.”
